Big CUMC Dinner -- November 7

In case you didn't know it's eatin' season in these parts. The opportunities for fine dining with your friends in the Cheverly community just keep piling up. We received this note from Dave "Halloween" Kneipp about the upcoming CUMC dinner on Novemeber 7:

I recently heard the CUMC dinner rated in the TOP THREE Cheverly Events -
right next to the Manty's Xmas dinner and Chev Prom - DONT MISS THIS YEAR's
DINNER!!!!

NOW IS THE TIME - To purchase tickets for the upcoming Cheverly UMC Annual
Recognition Dinner at the American Legion in Greenbelt on Saturday, November
7th, 2009.

Join us for this fun-filled and celebratory occasion!!!!

DETAILS on the DINNER - Please keep your eyes open for information.
Arrangements will be different due to the new location this year.

TICKET PRICES- We are providing a stepped pricing system, so please pay
attention to your calendars! Checks can be delivered/mailed to church or
Melanie.

EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT: If you purchase your ticket before Monday, October
26th, Ticket price is $30.00.

Between Monday, October 26th and Tuesday, November 3rd, the cost per plate
is $35.00. (If you purchase a table of six, the price remains $30/person.)

AFTER November 3rd, All ticket prices become $40.00. Payments can be
dropped off at the Church (2801 Cheverly Ave.) or at Melanie's (3201
Belleview Ave.)

Menu - Stuffed Chicken Breast w/ herb dressing and mashed potatoes, buttered
peas, tossed salad, rolls, coffee.

TIME - 6:00-10:00

Appetizers and the Silent Auction will start at 6:00.

Dinner will be served at 7:00 pm

Silent Auction will end at 9:45 pm

TRANSPORTATION

The Ivey family has offered their van for transporting people
to/from the church and the event. If you are interested in this service,
please contact Becky at church and let her know so we can keep you informed
as plans develop.

SILENT AUCTION ITEMS -

We have many of the old favorites back, but are looking for YOUR input for
some new items. Please contact Melanie Hartwig-Davis
(hdsquared@verizon.net) or Casey Kniepp (kcandave@verizon.net). To let us
know what you can provide. Are you willing to wash a car? Babysit for a
family? Bake a pie or cake? Do you provide a professional service that you
can donate? Do you have any local businesses that you patronize who will
donate a gift certificate? PLEASE ASK THEM. We can provide forms for their
taxes and book keeping.

We are SO PLEASED to announce that LARRY and JOYCE WOODWORTH will be honored at this year's recognition dinner. Larry and Joyce have been members since
at least 1958. Their dedication to our church is undeniable as we look back
at their past activity: countless committees, choirs, circles, Sunday
School teachers, Bible study leaders, quilting, etc. I personally can say
that Larry has been a wonderful example to me, as I have spent (only) 14
years on committees with him. His patience and skill at moderating
committees are to be commended and imitated. Joyce's faithful attention to
the younger children at the church has blessed countless families in our
community. CONGRATULATIONS Larry and Joyce!!

As a bit of 'icing on the cake', we will also recognize other long-time
members of the congregation. Please come join us in celebrating the members
who have been present over 50 years!
